Billionaire entrepreneur and owner of the basketball team Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban invested in NFT(Non-fungible token) data platform services called Cryptoslam through his venture capital company Radical Investment, although the amount raised was not disclosed.
In an announcement, Cuban said Cryptoslam is “the industry leader in tracking transaction for NFTs” and that its dominance “is only growing.” He also says, “I’m excited to be part of the amazing company Randy is putting together.”
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are digital collectibles, and artwork bought and sold on blockchains, mainly Ethereum. A crypto fan and the owner of a basketball team, MarkCuaban is more bullish on NFTs than most.
Cryptoslam started life in 2018 in Austin, Texas when digital collectibles fan Randy Wasinger launched the site to track Major League Baseball champion’s collectibles.
“As a life-long collector of sports cards and memorabilia, I was instantly drawn to the collectability of NFTs and the need to organize NFT data in a way that made sense of both collectors and those who saw NFT as an investment opportunity”. Randy Wasinger, founder, and CEO of Cryptoslam said in an announcement, “After launching the first version of Cryptoslam in early 2019, I saw the enthusiastic response from fellow NFT collectors and knew we could be on to something special.”
The project scope of work has increased significantly. It collects data on some of the most popular NFTs, from NBA Top Shot moments, crypto punks, and sorare collectibles. A total of 50 Project are tracked on the platform. It can collect project data from Ethereum, WAX, and flow blockchains.
The idea is to gather all information about multiple NFTs projects in one single place, from cumulative sales, changes in price, number of buyers, and much more. The platform’s comprehensive overview on how NFTs are performing resembles stock overviews and market research analysis.
Cyptroslam is not Cuban’s first investment in the NFT world. On 30th March, Mark Cuban announced his involvement in the $9 million investment of SuperRare.
NFTs have exploded in popularity in recent months with celebrities including Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and even Mark Cuban himself getting in on the hype by either minting their own NFTs for charity or starting their own NFT companies.
