Now, Beatport starts to accepting bitcoin. A prominent American DJ-related online music store Beatport announced this week that it would accept bitcoin (BTC) as a means of payment. It will be the first major digital music retailer to do so.
Beatport has also formed a partnership with crypto.com. It will facilitate it’s coming NFT titled “Music for Future Dance Floors,” which will release on April 23rd. The company also announced that it would accept bitcoin starting in June.
Robb McDaniels, CEO of Beatport, shows its high interest in cryptocurrencies as well as NFTs. McDaniels said, “When it benefits and strengthens the artist community, there is no reason to stop innovating. It’s clear that, even in the midst of a pandemic, the DJ/producer community is willing to lead the industry toward embracing new technology and innovative medium for engaging with their fans, and the world of cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens are a clear example of this fact.”
Crypto.com is a multifaceted cryptocurrency project with focuses ranging from in-store crypto-card payment to passive income staking and tokenization.
The press release explained that NFT will feature unreleased music from several renowned DJs and producers. “Exclusive, unreleased tracks from DJs and producers such as Sasha, Charlotte de Witte, Boys Noize, Panpol a new collaboration between Nic Fanciulli and Alec Monopoly called Sold As Seen, and a bonus from Sama Abdulhadi will be featured in the NFT alongside visual art from Australian art director Leif Podhajsky, who has spent years collaborating with the likes of Bonobo, Tame Impala, and the Sydney Opera House.”
The first series of A/v compilation planned by Beatport will feature music from emerging artists like Beatport Next artist Alignment, Third son, Anna Lann, and Risa Taniguchi. They all will join other artists with mini drops priced at $303 each. All 10 tracks will be packed with a 10-of-10 auction bonus. It will include a bonus track, four guest passes to show each artist. Will contributed a portion of the proceeds to charity, including a carbon offset donation from Beatport.
“For Beatport, this is just the beginning of our exploration into the metaverse and we are committed to the long-term opportunities this revolutionary technology protends,” Robb McDaniels said.
Last month, crypto.com launched its own NFT artists to connect a vast customer base to sell unique digital goods. Recently, it also partnered with Time magazine to allow users to pay cryptocurrency for its digital subscription.
