Decentralized storage protocol Filecoin introduces NFT.Storage, free decentralized storage for NFTs. NFT.Storage allows developers to protect their NFT assets and associated metadata through content addressing and decentralized storage. NFT.Storage services backed by FileCoin and Pinata especially for storing NFT data.

How NFT.Storage works?
Once users upload data on NFT.Storage, they receive an IPFS hash of the content known as CID. CIDs are unique digital fingerprints of data that universally address reference the content regardless of how or where it is stored. This process is known as Content Addressing. Using CIDs to reference NFT assets and metadata prevents problems like fragile links and “Rug pulls.”
NFT.Storage uses Filecoin for long-term decentralized data storage and retrieval deal to preserve NFT data long term. Filecoin provides a permanence layer using cryptographic proofs to ensure the durability and persistence of NFT data over time. The developers can retrieve their data stored via IPFS and Filecoin directly in the browser via any public IPFS.

NFT.Storage fills the gap for NFT developers looking for easy APIs and best practices for storing their NFT data securely. Projects like Palm, VideoCoin, and many NFT marketplaces already power their NFT networks with Filecoin and IPFS.
Data will be stored on IPFS at no cost as long as Protocols Labs, continues to offer free storage service. Protocol Labs reserves the right to terminate NFT.Storage at its sole discretion. Though, Protocol Labs said to provide 90 days’ notice to users via email. So that users can have enough time to make arrangements for storing their data by other means.
