Today, Polkadot announces that its sister chain Kusama is all set to host Parachains on the network. This is the final phase in the launch of Polkadot. So far Polkadot existed as a single chain in isolation. Now with this rollout, its final vision of a heterogeneously sharded system is about to become reality.
Kusama (KSM) is an environment for Polkadot, that allows developers to experiment with new blockchain or applications before releasing them on the Polkadot network.
Parity Technologies released Polkadot Version 0.9 for Kusama, so is “now finally ready to host parachains”. This release includes requisite logic for implementing parachains on the Kusama network.
Polkadot and Kusama creator Gavin Wood said, “The launch of parachain is excepted to begin once two things have happened: firstly, a full external audit completed on all new logic. Secondly, Kusama executing at least one successful auction involving crowdloans and hosting at least one functional parachain”.
He did not provide any proper timeline but added he expects the audit completed in near future. Kusama will announce the first auction’s start date one week in advance and excepted a timetable for further five auctions.

“After Kusama’s first auctions complete successfully, one would expect Polkadot’s auction to happen soon after,” said Wood.
Since August rollout of the Polkadot protocol is ongoing. The project launched on Rococo testnet to evaluate planned implementation on parachain.
