Apple lists a Job to hire a “business development manager- Alternative payment” with experience in the cryptocurrency industry. This job ad has raised the intriguing prospect that the company may soon support the cryptocurrency payment option.
“The Apple Wallets payment and Commerce (WPC) team is seeking an experienced business development manager to lead Alternative payment partnerships,” the company wrote.
The recruit will join the Apple Wallet, Payment, and commerce team or the WPC team. This position will be responsible for the end to end business development. It will also include screening partners, negotiating and closing commercial agreements, and launching new programs.
The position list cryptocurrency as one of the “key qualification” required for application. The company is asking for individuals with 5+ years of experience working in or with alternative payment providers, such as digital wallets, BNPL, Fast Payments, cryptocurrency and etc…
In addition, the job role requires 10+ years of professional experience and 6+ years in business or market development at multiple financial service firms. The job posting is part of Apple’s attempt at establishing a new Alternative payment partnership. The company requires professionals who can enable alternative and emerging payment solutions on Apple’s existing services.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has publicly discussed his vision of a future without physical cash, only digital payment. Apple has not yet announced features to allow iPhone users to accept payment except through its peer-to-peer services widely.

Two years ago, Vice president of Apple pay, Jennifer Bailey said there was a “long-term potential” for cryptocurrency.
According to FT, it seems Apple is gently warming to the idea of supporting cryptocurrencies, even before this hire. The App Store listing for the cryptocurrency trading service. Coinbase shows that it is now supported in Apple Wallet, although it seems the functionality hasn’t been fully switched on yet.
Apple can possibly integrate cryptocurrency exchange desks or simply accept cryptocurrency payments on its Apple wallet. Alternatively, it can follow Tesla and invest directly in cryptocurrencies. If Apple embraces cryptocurrencies, the market will get its one of the strongest endorsement.
