The Spain high court has authorized the extradition of John McAfee, an antivirus software creator, to the United States. He faces tax fraud charges, according to a court document released on Wednesday showed.
IRS had filled charges against him for his failed bid to run as a Libertarian Party candidate in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
McAfee was arrested at Barcelona airport in October 2020, during an extradition hearing that the accusations against him were politically motivated.
The Spanish court authorized the extradition but only to face charges related to his tax return for 2016-2018.
The Spanish prosecutor Carlos Bautista said McAfee was just a tax dodger and dismissed the accusation of political motivation.
The United District Court indictment charged McAfee with 10 counts of charges against him. Penalties for these charges include 30 years of jail time and a fine of $3,500,000.
