After a long period, decentralized Finance (DeFi) startup Optimism has launched its Alpha Layer 2 solution for Uniswap on Optimistic Ethereum (OE) mainnet.
The “move marks the first step in the journey for DeFi applications to rival and surpass traditional web user experiences,” said in the post.
“During this Alpha period, OE will support an initial throughout of 0.6 transactions per second. Because Uniswap V3 is currently one of the few protocols deployed to OE, this should translate to transaction capacity roughly in line with L1. Unlike L1, transaction on OE confirm instantly- no more pending or struck swaps!” said the decentralized exchange (DEX)’s team.
DeFi exchange Uniswap’s transactions are conducted on Ethereum and accompanying gas fees, which have reached high at times this year. Solutions such as Optimism’s look to reduce costs associated.
In the blog post, the Uniswap team emphasizes that would-be users should “Please treat this as an early alpha product.”
“Optimistic Ethereum is a complex Layer 2 scaling solution still in need of rigorous battletesting. At launch, the optimism team will have upgrade right over bridge contract, allowing them to address any bugs that should arise,” the team wrote.
Uniswap V3 supports any ERC 20 token on OE but will offer a limited number of asset launch ETH, USDT, WBTC, DAI, SNX. More will be added in the coming days and weeks.
