Popular cross-chain decentralized exchange THORChain, suffered an attack that drained about 4,000 Ethereum ($7.6 million) worth of digital assets (ETH/ERC20) were stolen.
“This is a disappointing moment for all, but LPs and Nodes should be unaffected after all is recovered (the funds will be restored),” tweeted the official Thorchain account. The company tweeted that it would provide a “more detailed assessment and recovery steps” soon.
Administrative in Thorchain’s Telegram group initially estimated the loss at about 13,000 ETH ($25.1 million). Later ThorChain community’s Twitter revised the estimate to “ assets worth 4,000 ETH.
In their revised announcement on telegram they said,
“While the treasury has the funds to cover the stolen amount, we request the attacker get in contact with the team to discuss the return of funds and a bounty commensurate with the discovery.”
“Node operators, liquidity providers and swappers – Your funds will be available when the issue has been patched & the network resumes. Any in-progress swaps will be finalised at this time.”

Further, the network will also denote funds back into the ETH pool to restore the lost funds. Finally, once the LPs have had their funds restored, ThorChain will engage a security firm to audit its contacts.
