The US being the giant country had many cyberattacks over the years. The US created a cross-government task force to coordinate a series of defensive and offensive measures against ransomware and other cyberattacks.
Recently Biden administration announced that it is planning to increase security regarding various cyber threats. They will reward a $10 million bounty for any help identifying the perpetrators.
Anne Neuberger (Deputy National Security Adviser for Cyber and Emerging Technology) examined the administration’s plan during a 35-minute briefing for senators earlier.
The administration is also inspecting possibilities of newer partnerships with cyber insurance providers and various other agencies to get information about attacks more quickly.
Experts on cybersecurity:
Experts are pressuring President Joe Biden to respond strongly to various attacks from Russia. Hacker groups belonging to Russia have disabled most of the East Coast’s gasoline supply. They have also destroyed a meat processing company and breached the IT software vendor Kaseya.
John Katko said that “We’ve got to send a robust, even disproportionate, message to Russia that we’re not going to tolerate this,”. A group of senators are expected to introduce new legislation. Which, requires a wide range of companies, including critical infrastructure operators, to report hacks to the government. Also, Federal officials reported that lack of information about private sector breaches hampers their ability in protecting the country from digital threats.
Neuberger also informed senators that the White House will announce three other steps in the coming days. Also, DHS’ Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency will launch an interagency website, stopransomware.gov, to collect defensive guidance from various agencies.
Since the cases are abruptly increasing, Biden is now obtaining his core team to deal with them. Jen Easterly started her job as director of CISA, giving the beleaguered agency its first permanent chief since last November.
