Blockchain platform Enjin (ENJ) became the first non-fungible token (NFT) company accepted into the United Nations (UN) Global Compact.
Singapore-based Enjin announced that it would explore ways to utilize NFTs to promote the UN’s sustainability and equality goals.
Enjin says that it is committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles “in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption.”
Membership in the Global Compact requires “a rigorous commitment to The Global Compact sustainability and equality according to the Ten Principles of UN Global Compact,” the announcement noted. It also mentioned that the Global Compact aims “ to support business in working towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
Irakli Beridz, Head, Centre for AI and Robotics, UNICRI, United Nations, stated:
“We are excited to work with Enjin to explore how blockchain and NFTs can contribute to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. While we are struggling to recover from the global exponential growth of technology, such as AI and blockchain. More than ever, we need to take advantage and harness the potential of these new technologies to ensure that we are better equipped and more united in the future, in order to make our planet a more livable, equitable place for all.”
Enjin made significant strides by generating eco-friendly JumpNet Blockchain. It supposedly utilizes a lot less energy than Ethereum. The company also Joined the Crypto Climate Accord. Accordingly, these efforts directly support Principle 9 of the Global compact. This focuses on “the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.”

The United Nations has listed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) it hopes to achieve by 2030. It includes that all human beings can fulfill their potential in dignity and equality in a healthy, peaceful environment.
