The Sacramento Kings, a professional basketball team in the US, will test its first-ever blockchain ticket that includes the exclusive experience of NFTs.
The team have announced the distribution of 100 “smart” tickets in the form of a non-fungible token. During this summer’s California Classic, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has worked with Lava and Flow, the blockchain that underpins NBA Top Shot.
A select 100 fans with tickets to the NBA Summer League games, set to take place August 3 and 4 at Golden 1 Center, will have the opportunity to test this unique experience and receive digital art commemorating the games.
“With the Smart Ticket, one can allocate more than a seat,” said Vivek Ranadivé, Sacramento Kings owner and chairman. “This is the future of sports, entertainment, media, and all experiential businesses” he continued.
Besides the ticket, the NFT pass will include merchandise, food and beverage funds, and a digital animation of the game. It will be saved in the mobile wallets of clients.
During the pandemic, NFTs have grown in popularity as digital artists have been able to sell their work for millions of dollars.
Wen Miao, CEO of Lava, said, “We’re excited to join with the Kings and Flow to create real-time experiences”.
During the 2019-20 season, Kings also used blockchain for a predictive game app and incentive scheme called “Call the Shot.”
