In Brief:
- The cryptocurrency expert will moderate the retailer’s digital currency strategy and roadmap.
Walmart, the US largest retailer chain, is looking to hire a crypto expert. According to the job posting on the company’s LinkedIn, the person would take up the position of digital currency lead.
The lead would manage the retail giant’s digital currency strategy. The person also would identify the need for technological solutions and finding new partners in the crypto space. The targeted person will hold the position of senior director. They would operate from Walmart’s Bentonville, Arkansas head offices.
According to the company, the individual expects to help develop a cryptocurrency roadmap to align with the developments in the blockchain space. The job ad states that the expert “will provide the leadership to identify technology and customer trends”. They also would seek to build these into product requirements.
Walmart already has a blockchain strategy. The company started using the technology in its supply chain management. The company also explored the use of blockchain in drones to speed up its customer deliveries.
Two years ago, Walmart applied for a patent on price-stable crypto which was then called Libra.
Amazon made a similar move last month. It advertised for a digital currency and blockchain product lead to help innovate how the site’s customers pay.
With this, Amazon and Walmart would be the US Giants whose efforts to implement cryptocurrency strategies for increased adoption of digital assets in payments and online shopping.
