Netherland-based football club PSV announced Tuesday that it will hodl bitcoin with the help of crypto exchange Anycoin Direct. The exchange will pay an undisclosed amount of BTC to the club as a part of the partnership.
According to the official statement, the exchange will remain an official partner of PSV for the next two seasons. The goal of the partnership is to grow awareness of crypto across Europe.
As a part of the partnership, PSV Eindhoven will receive the total sponsorship amount in Bitcoin. This would make PSV the first major football club in the European Union to get paid sponsorship in cryptocurrency.
Frans Janssen, Commercial Director at PSV, commented: “The possibilities and the future that the world of cryptocurrency offers is very promising. As a club in the heart of the Brainport region, we are always innovating, cryptocurrency fits well into this picture.”
PSV’s announcement further adds Janssen created bitcoin wallets to facilitate the partnership deal, immediately after signing the deal.

The club worked with crypto technology for the first time earlier this year. They also sold an NFT of its 1988 European Cup 1 final victory.
The football ecosystem has amped up its adoption game with this as more clubs continue to involve crypto in mainstream operations.
