PayPal Holdings Inc will permit its crypto services in the UK. Allowing customers to buy/sell and hold different cryptocurrencies on its platform, starting this next week.
Now, Customers of PayPal UK, can trade and hold four cryptocurrencies. It includes
- Bitcoin (BTC)
- Ether (ETH)
- Litecoin (LTC)
- Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
The roll-out marks the first international expansion of PayPal’s cryptocurrencies services outside of the United States. By accessing their PayPal account via the website or the Mobile app, they can see real-time crypto prices. The company making an entry, access, knowledge, and exploration of crypto has the potential to become mainstream in the U.K.
The company does not charge any fees for holding cryptocurrency. There are transaction fees and currency transaction fees for buy/sell applicable cryptocurrencies. Customers can’t transfer crypto to other wallets. PayPal users can start investing in crypto with a little as £1 of cryptocurrency.
“We are committed to continue working closely with regulators in the UK, and around the world, to offer our support and meaningfully contributes to shaping the role digital currencies will play in the future of global finance and commerce,” Jose Fernandez da Ponte, vice president and general manager for blockchain, crypto, and digital currencies at PayPal, said in a statement.
Earlier this year, PayPal also launched cryptocurrency buying/selling in the United States. Later it enabled customers to use their digital coin holdings to shop at the millions of merchants on its network.
PayPal’s Venmo payment app also allows users to buy/sell, and hold crypto in the U.S. Venmo isn’t available in the U.K. The company has enabled its cryptocurrency offering through a partnership with Paxos Trust Company.
