The Government in El Salvador set to adopt bitcoin as legal tender on Sept.7. A poll by the Central American University shows that almost 70% of Salvadorans are opposed to Bitcoin Law.
According to the survey conducted by ludopUCA, 7 out of 10 Salvadorans want President Nayib Bukele’s Bitcoin Law to be repealed.
A total of 67.9% of 1281 people surveyed said they disagree with Bitcoin becoming legal tender in the country. Over 32% said that they agreed on some level, per reports. 45% of people say poverty and unemployment are the two biggest problems facing the country right now.
“What we can see in this survey, in addition to this broad rejection of the implementation of bitcoin as legal tender, is that for the first time we found a significant disagreement between the population and decision being made by the Legislative Assembly and the president,” said UCA Dean Andreu Oliva.

The results also found that 2 out of 10 surveyed said that they do not trust bitcoin. 43% of Salvadorans polled believe that the country’s economy will worsen with the legalisation of bitcoin of currency. In other words, nine out of 10 Salvadorans have no clear knowledge of what this financial asset is.
The government has also developed a national cryptocurrency wallet called Chivo. Every adult citizen being able to claim $30 after registering with the app. The study also showed that 65% of respondents had no interest in the Chivo wallet.
