In Brief:
- The US SEC is investigating Uniswap developers Uniswap Labs
- Enforcement attorneys are seeking information about how investors use Uniswap and how it is marketed.
The US SEC is reportedly carrying out investigations on Uniswap Labs, the main developer behind the Uniswap Exchange.
The Wall Street Journal reported that on Friday Enforcement attorneys are said to be seeking information about how investors use Uniswap and how it is marketed. The report also cited “people familiar with the matter.”
A Uniswap Labs spokesperson told The Journal that the firm is “committed to complying with the laws and regulations governing our industry and to providing information to regulators that will assist them with any inquiry.”
An SEC spokesperson denied commenting to the news outlet. The person said that the agency doesn’t confirm or deny investigations.
SEC’s scrutiny into Uniswap comes amid increased regulatory interest in cryptocurrencies and the digital asset market. Chair Gary Gensler reportedly called on Congress last month to enact legislation that would allow the SEC to supervise cryptocurrency exchanges.
