In Brief:
- Hungary honours Satoshi Nakamoto with a bronze statue in Graphisoft Park.
- Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly sculpted the statue.
- The face represents the mantra “we are all Satoshi”
In Budapest, Hungary, bitcoin supporters unveiled the world’s first statue honouring Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic founder of Bitcoin.
“The goal of the statue is to honor Satoshi Nakamoto, the founders believe that his work is truly something to be remembered,” reads the initiative’s website.
Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly sculpted this bronze statue, which is located in Graphisoft Park. When they created this statue, they wanted Satoshi’s face to represent the mantra “we are all Satoshi,”. So they made the statue in a way that visitors will see their own face when looking at Satoshi. It reminds visitors that you’re just as important to Bitcoin as Satoshi and everyone else.
“It was a big challenge. It is very difficult to make a portrait sculpture of a person that we don’t know exactly what they look like,” Gilly said to The Associated Press.
Bitcoin came into the common people in 2018 and aimed to serve a peer-to-peer online transaction technology without any central banks involved in it. Earlier this July, Elizabeth Warren called Bitcoiners a shadowy faceless group of super coders.
The bronze sculpture of Satoshi is wearing a hoodie with a recent bitcoin logo on its chest, but not the “BC” that originally Satoshi gave.
Earlier in June 2021, a rough draft of the statue was released on Twitter to the public and now the statue is in front of you. Although the statue attracted a big crowd, nobody came to take responsibility for the development of crypto that has attracted tens of millions of investors.
