In Brief:
- The largest NFT marketplace, OpenSea released an app for ios and Android users
- Permits users to connect their OpenSea profile and discover new works.
- OpenSea also allows users to share NFT outside the app.
With the increasing growth of mobile apps, the NFT marketplace OpenSea also released a mobile app for iOS and Android users. It is a big day for the Amazon of the decentralized internet.
According to a post on the OpenSea official Youtube channel, the app permits users to connect their OpenSea profile and discover new works. The core mission of the launch is to make NFTs more available to all.
The app makes discovering and managing NFTs easier for users. It allows users to save works to favourites and filter NFT searches. It also allows users to search based on criteria such as category, name, collection and creator. When you view an NFT in the app, a button appears that lets you share the NFT outside the app. The new app is only for browsing NFTs, not buying or selling them.
Opensea has also announced the new app on their more popular Twitter channel. Perhaps more of a roadblock, there’s still no way to make in-app payments with crypto. If a company wanted to support buying and selling, it would have to build out its infrastructure for USD payment and the marketplace is highly reliable on Ethereum.
Rariable, another NFT marketplace, released a mobile app about a month ago. Like the OpenSea app, on the Rarible app, you can also only browse NFTs, not buy, sell or trade them.
OpenSea launched the mobile app following the accusation of insider trading of NFTs. Marketplace’s head of product Nate Chastain was asked to resign after allegations.
