In Brief:
- The first art auction in the Ethereum cryptocurrency will take place on October 1st.
- Christie’s auction house is hosting the auction as “Post-War to Present: The NFTs” .
Christie’s, a famous 254-year-old British auction house, will stage an auction of Art Blocks curated NFTs with live bidding in ETH. The firm claims it is the first in history for any major auction house to do so.
It will stage an auction for its curated Art Blocks “Post-War to Present: The NFTs” as well as some of the world’s oldest NFTs. The auctions will be a live auction on October 1.
For the auction “Post-War to Present.” Modern artists would be able to handpick their favourite postwar artworks from over 200 options and pay for them in Ethereum.
The Art Block:
Snowfro, an artist and technologist, launched Art Blocks in 2020 to select and debut new projects by top artists working on the cutting edge of the New Generative Art movement.
The current lot includes whole sets 1, 2, and 3 of Art Blocks Curated, 2020-2021—totalling 31 NFTs—from Barcella’s collection in Toronto, Canada, and includes particularly stunning specimens from many of these now-iconic series.
Elevated Deconstructions are his particular favourite ineffable 21st-century runes, and every item in the Art Block Curated series exudes a mood of unfathomable mystery to some degree, as per Noah Davis, Associate Vice President of Christie’s.
The Art Blocks model eliminates the art world’s boring facts, allowing their market to operate in the most free, aesthetically appealing commercial art sector yet, thanks to blockchain, decentralisation, NFTs, and the algorithm’s almighty force.
Christie’s auctions will feature a mix of digital and physical art, and introduce traditional art collectors to NFTs and some of the oldest NFTs curio cards. It is also attracting crypto-native collectors who were not previously clients of the auction house.
