Osinachi, the Nigerian digital artist, will auction five non-fungible tokens (NFTs) through Christie’s London and in cooperation with 1-54 African art fairs. He will be the first African artist to auction NFTs through Christie’s.
According to the announcement, an auction of Nigerian crypto-artist Osinahci’s NFT series “Different Shades of Water” will take place online from 5-19 October. In addition, the works can be purchased with ETH or BTC.
The series “Different Shades of Water ” was created by David Hockney’s Portrait of an Artist. The Osinachi envisions what the pool would resemble with various shades of water.
In cooperation, the NFTs series will also be shown on screens at the 154 London fair at Somerset House from 14-17 October. The NFTs collection was estimated between £40,000 and £60,000.
Osinachi explained series that he plays with the positioning of the subject’s body, investigating “how day-light can change one’s impression of water in a pool.” He expands on his signature style to highlight the relationship between person and water in the world.
Each piece is additionally a commentary on the endless prioritization of work and accomplishments over the prosperity of the human body.
African artists also stated that “He feels that this intersection has come to make things more innovative, easier and even enable us to push the envelope in many ways.”
With the boom in the NFT market, artists and celebrities are taking interest in NFTs. Recently, an international chess tournament, MCCT, announced to give the NFT trophy to the winner. The grandmaster Magnus Carlsen will also participate in the match’s finals
