Over the weekend, a 1994 Subaru Prodrive 555 Group A world Rally Championship car sold for $360k in Bitcoin, under the hammer Lloyds Auctions.
According to the announcement, the car was driven by Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz; however, it was retired in 1996 and “ spent the last 10 years gathering dust in the outbuilding.”
The classic WRX car was originally thought to be worth $15,000 to $20,000, according to Lloyds Auctions. It was discovered in the Aussie state of Victoria, yet an ensuing examination by the automobile authenticator ICAARS discovered that “it was really a World Rally Championship vehicle.” Lloyds said it is a gold treasure and one of just 63 commissioned by Prodrive.
“The new custodians are motorsport enthusiasts and are looking forward to enjoying all the benefits of the car and honoring the vehicle,” Lee Hames, chief operations offer for Lloyds Auctions, said in a statement.

Lloyds announced in June that it would begin accepting cryptocurrency as a payment for auction. With the increasing adoption of cryptocurrency, auction houses also started accepting cryptocurrency as a method of payment. Christie’s, Sotheby, and Phillips auction house also started accepting cryptocurrency for payments.
