American rapper Kanye West’s mural painted in Chicago by artist Jason Peterson will be sold on the Avalanche blockchain as an NFT.
Peterson, Kalao, and Ava Labs, the developers of Avalanche, are developing a new marketplace called YeahProbablyNothing.com where NFT will be sold.
Minted on the Avalanche blockchain, the 41°53’07.9″N 87°39’04.9″W Mural NFT is a one-of-a-kind NFT that exists across both physical and digital worlds.
The NFT auction started on October 11 at 1 pm Eastern Time with a minimum bid 202 AVAX. The auction will close on October 22 at 1 pm Eastern Time. In the last ten minutes of the auction, there will be bid extensions of three minutes for each bid placed.
The owner of the NFT will be tied to the artwork by a QR code found on the mural. The ownership of the NFT will be available on the Avalanche blockchain at any time, and if it changes hands, the information tied to it will also change.
Although the Kanye West mural is Peterson’s first NFT, Peterson plans to release more NFTs that feature some of his best photographs in the future.
Peterson said, “Contemporary artists are constantly seeking new ways to challenge the status quo of art and its medium, NFTs brought in an innovative, new medium to the art world, allowing artists to fully control the distribution of their art as well as experiment with new ideas.”
Recently eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt also launched NFTs on Football star Tom Brady’s NFT platform Autograph.
Today, most NFTs are built on Ethereum, but other blockchains have been making ground in the NFT space as well, such as the Tezos-based OneOf platform, which recently saw the launch of American rapper Doja Cat’s first NFT collection.
