In Brief:
- The Ethereum Foundation announced a grant of a massive $1 Million for Advocacy Non-Profits.
- The first half of the amount would be for Coin center, Electronic Frontier Foundation and Fight for the Future.
- The other half will be allocated to the Gitcoin matching pool.
As per the blog published on November 16, The Ethereum Foundation announced a grant of a massive $1 Million for Advocacy Non-Profits.
The Ethereum Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports Ethereum and other blockchain technologies (not to be confused with Ethereum technology development) is allocating the grant for Ethereum and blockchain education and technology advocacy.
As per the blog, Ethereum Foundation will split the $1 million grant fund into two halves; $500,000 for the following three organizations that have helped in educating policymakers and regulators: Coin center, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Fight for the Future.
Coin center is the leading US non-profit focused on the ‘policy issues facing blockchain networks’. Electronic Frontier Foundation is a non-profit leader in defending ‘digital privacy, free speech, and innovation’. Fight for the Future is an activism group that fights for a future where ‘technology is a force for liberation not oppression’.
The foundation also remarked that it is vital for the broader Ethereum community to have a say in allocating fundings so as to promote education on the important topics.
Thus, the other $500,000 USD is granted to the Gitcoin matching pool for their forthcoming advocacy round. This round will provide the community with an opportunity to decide which advocacy nonprofits should receive additional funding for their work.
Aya Miyaguchi, the Executive Director at Ethereum Foundation tweeted, “In nearly a decade of crypto-life, I’ve seen governments make good & bad decisions. One mistake can easily create a lose-lose situation for them and for our community. I’m certain though that we can have an impact on improving education around the technologies we’re building”.
In August, various DeFi firms donated a total of $1.5 million to the Ethereum Foundation to advance the Ethereum 2.0 upgrade.
Last week, on November 10, Ethereum coin had hit an all time high value of $4,878. While currently, as of this writing, Ethereum is trading at $4,177.
