In Brief:
- SCMP released a whitepaper today to announce the release of its historical archives NFT collection.
- The whitepaper also described the Artifact NFT metadata standard.
- A marketplace will be developed specifically for the purpose of minting, sale and trade of ARTIFACTs.
In a whitepaper published today, The South China Morning Post(SCMP) announced the release of its NFT collection drawing from its 118-year archives, called “Artifacts by SCMP”. The whitepaper also describes the Artifact NFT metadata standard, which it says can be used for “tokenising history”.
As informed by SCMP, the ARTIFACT’s metadata structure will be built on the Flow blockchain originally created by Dapper Labs. This development comes after SCMP had first announced its NFTs in July
As per its website, Flow’s reliability, scalability, speed, and high quality UX are essential factors for establishing ARTIFACT’s global NFT marketplace and ecosystem.
The launch is said to come in the form of ‘Base Series’ and ‘Thematic Drops’, released inboxes. This will include the introductory ‘1997 Series’ that portrays significant historical events from that year. It will have a randomised collection of ARTIFACTs presented as collectible cards.
The ARTIFACT whitepaper gives a comprehensive view of the proposed governance structure and the development of a dedicated marketplace.
ARTIFACT’s metadata structure will be co-developed by a global council of cross-disciplinary experts. The structure will infuse NFTs with a thorough, extensive context and a source point to establish historical significance and value. This in turn, will raise their discoverability, connectivity, and collectibility.
A marketplace will be developed specifically for the purpose of minting, sale and trade of ARTIFACTs in order to serve the global community of historical NFT issuers and collectors.
Interestingly, Dapper Labs is the company behind the NFL versions of NBA Top Shot video collectibles and is a popular one in the sports world.
