On Wednesday, the founder of non-functioning dark web marketplace Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht announced the auction of his NFTs on Ethereum.
The NFT series will be open for bidding from December 02 to December 08 on Superare NFT marketplace.
The 37 year old imprisoned founder, Ross, wrote in a post that he will be using the artwork to show his story from being a toddler to finding himself behind bars at the age of 29.
The collection which is titled as “Ross Ulbricht Genesis Collection” will include writings and artworks by Ulbricht. The collection will also be accompanied with Ulbricht’s voiceover narrating his prison experience and an original animation by Levitate.
Some part of the proceeds from the auction will go to a trust to support Ulbricht’s efforts to be freed from prison. The proceeds will also help fund Art4Giving, a trust aiming to relieve the suffering of the incarcerated and their families.
In the original post, Ulbricht wrote, “My own future may look bleak, but I can still do a little something to heal the damage I see all around me. Prison shatters families. It shatters communities. And the kids are the ones who suffer.”
Ross Ulbricht was sentenced to two life terms in federal prison in October 2015 for operating the Silk Road marketplace. This marketplace is a dark web founded in February 2011 which facilitated users to purchase nearly anything with Bitcoin, including narcotics and other illicit substances.
While crypto with its soaring fanbase has intrigued nations and people across globe, the cons of it has also raised eyebrows of many, from time and again. The anonymity inherited in the crypto world has been increasingly used in the trade of illegal substances. Recently, in August, Australian Police had seized AUD 8.5 million in crypto from Dark Web in a drug trafficking case.
