French video game publisher, Ubisoft became the first major Gaming company to launch In-Game NFTs termed as ‘Digits’ in AAA games via its new Ubisoft Quartz platform. These playable and energy-efficient NFTs will be released as part of ‘limited Editions’.
Ubisoft Quartz will launch in beta on December 9, starting with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint for PC gamers, announced via tweet.
The beta version will be available for the players in the United States, Canada, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Belgium, and Australia. Also, early adopters on December 9,12, and 15 will get free cosmetic NFTs, with further drops planned for 2022.
Unlike standard gaming cosmetics like skins, vehicles, and guns, each item will have a unique serial number for each player, ensuring that they are ‘non-fungible.’ Furthermore, these In-Game NFTs, also known as ‘digits,’ can be purchased or sold on Tezos by players who don’t even play Ghost Recon or any other NFT-compatible game. Regardless, Gamertags from prior owners will be listed on Digits used in-game for the foreseeable future.
NFT drops are available to Ghost Recon Breakpoint players who have reached XP level 5 in the game. In addition, to generate the Tezos wallet required for the game, players must be at least 18 years old.
Ubisoft’s new platform – Ubisoft Quartz lets players buy and earn in-game items in the form of NFTs on the Tezos blockchain. Though, the launch does not come as a surprise, as Ubisoft has been planning to invest in companies operating on the blockchain. Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, has also expressed his intention to generate its own games incorporating playable NFTs in October this year.
