“FreeRossDAO” backed by the Pleasrdao project has won ‘The Ross Ulbricht Genesis non-fungible token (NFT) collection’ auction. The NFT collection was sold at 1,446 ether or $6.27 million at the time of settlement.
As per FreeRossDAO’s tweet, over 1,320 people raised over 2,800 ETH in a week (accounting to an approximation of $12m) to win the NFT collection auction.
The tweet explained that the multi-signature crypto wallet will fractionalize all of the NFTs in the collection as a bundle and distribute pro-rata to all participants as a $ROSS token.
The $ROSS token will serve as both fractional pieces of Genesis Collection and also FreeRossDao’s governance token.
Holders of $ROSS token can vote on proposals and contribute to the direction of FreeRossDAO
Also, any excess ETH funds will stay in the DAO to be managed by the community of token holders.
FreeRossDAO tweeted, “This is just the beginning. Buying this NFT has not freed Ross. We still have a long way to go to seek justice and rectify his disproportionate sentence of double life imprisonment as a first-time, non-violent offender.”
Elaborating on this, the DAO lists out its goals as freeing Ross, advancing prison reform, and sharing Ross’s work with the world and giving everyone a unique opportunity to own a piece of it.
On December 02, the founder of non-functioning dark web marketplace Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht had announced the auction of his NFTs on Ethereum to help reforming prison and fund Ulbricht’s freedom efforts.
