Meta (previously Facebook) is introducing a limited testing of its “Novi” digital wallet for its WhatsApp messaging app.
As per the Head of Novi, Stephane Kasriel, the company has announced that a limited number of people in the US will also be able to participate in WhatsApp payment methods using Novi wallet.
This move is being carried out after Facebook had already executed a small pilot test of its cryptocurrency wallet Novi in the US and Guatemala in October. As a result, pilot testers have, since then, been able to send each other personal payments through the service successfully.
Head of Novi Stephane Kasriel tweeted, “We often hear that people use WhatsApp to coordinate sending money to loved ones, and Novi enables people to do that securely, instantly and with no fees. Payments will appear directly in people’s chat.”
With Novi, one can easily send money without incurring fees. So, to make the payment, users will have to first find their intended contact within WhatsApp, tap the attachment icon, select Payment and follow instructions on how to log into their Novi account.
Kasriel has also assured that using Novi won’t change the privacy of WhatsApp personal messages and calls, as they are always end-to-end encrypted.
It is worth recalling that Facebook had first entered crypto space and specifically the crypto wallet market with the launch of new Novi Wallet in August this year.
