The NFT bug has bitten Vodafone too, as it decides to auction off the World’s First SMS as an NFT at an expected bid of $200,000.
The aforementioned 15 letter SMS read, “Merry Christmas,” and was sent through the Vodafone network on December 3, 1992. It was received by Vodafone employee Richard Jarvis during a Christmas celebration 29 years ago.
The auction will take place on Tuesday 21 December, and will be run by Aguttes Auction House in France and the buyer will have to pay in Ether.
The proceeds from the auction will be used for raising money for the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
The buyer will receive a detailed replica of the original communication protocol created by Vodafone, which records the sending and receiving of the world’s first SMS.
It is also informed that the exclusive NFT was minted exclusively and Vodafone will not mint another NFT related to the first SMS in the future.
