In Brief:
- Binance partners with CAF and becomes the official sponsor of the AFCON championship.
- Over 160 countries are scheduled to broadcast the biggest African football tournament.
- CAF’s General Secretary believes Binance can connect with its users and the African community via football.
Global crypto exchange Binance announced partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as the exclusive sponsor of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship.
Binance will be the sole cryptocurrency and blockchain platform for the AFCON event as a result of this sponsorship agreement.
AFCON is the biggest African soccer tournament in the world and is held from January 9 till February 6, 2022, in Cameroon.
Binance is also the official partner of the Assist of the Day, Binance Assist of the Week, and Binance Assist of the Tournament, which is set to be promoted on CAF’s social media accounts and in all six venues in Cameroon.
Over 160 countries are scheduled to broadcast the event, with a total viewership of more than 300 million people, while Binance’s logo will be displayed on every stadium during the games.
CAF’s General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba believes that via this collaboration with CAF, Binance will connect further with its users and the African community through football.
“CAF is ready to embrace blockchain-based technology and its impact on the future of African football development. I am certain that together with Binance, we can take African football to a new level,” he stated.
Binance’s co-founder and chief marketing officer, Yi He, emphasized that his company’s objective is to provide wider access to financial services to the world’s unbanked.
Since 2020, Binance has provided over 540,000 Africans with free crypto education sessions. Africa, according to the CEO, has the potential to lead the blockchain business into the future.
Yi He added, “We will continue to put in our efforts in pushing the mainstream adoption of crypto so that more people can understand crypto and understand Binance.”
Binance isn’t the first cryptocurrency exchange to notice the possibilities of sports advertising. In October Coinbase announced its long term partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA). The agreement includes Women’s NBA, NBA G League, NBA 2K League, and USA Basketball’s sponsorship.
