In Brief:
- AMC distributed free NFTs to over 580k of its shareholders.
- The ‘I Own AMC’ NFTs were given to shareholders who registered via AMC’s Investor connect portal by December 31, 2021.
- Eco-friendly WAX blockchain was used to mint the NFTs.
AMC theaters, the largest theater chain in the world, distributed “I Own AMC” NFTs to over 580,000 shareholders.
The NFTs were given out to the shareholders who signed up through AMC’s Investor connect portal by the December 31 deadline.
The ‘I Own AMC’ NFTs will be tradeable and they will also provide holders with benefits such as possible discounts and “other benefits.”
WAX, a carbon-neutral blockchain designed for huge NFT drops, was used to mint the NFTs. WAX is also the most widely used blockchain in the world, with 15 million transactions per day.
AMC Theaters earlier used WAX for its collaboration with Sony Pictures to distribute 86,000 NFTs to members of its AMC Stubs Premiere, AMC Stubs A-List, and AMC Investor Connect who bought tickets in advance for the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
AMC has proved again and again its friendly stance towards the crypto sector. One was when AMC started allowing its customers to buy digital gift cards using Dogecoin in October 2021. In November AMC revealed their plans to accept another meme coin Shiba Inu as a payment method in collaboration with BitPay.
