YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki revealed the video platform is planning to integrate NFT features to provide an additional source of revenue to its creators. In her letter to creators, Wojcicki mentioned that the platform has been following everything happening in Web3 as a source of inspiration.
The platform is interested in expanding the YouTube ecosystem, and this expansion could include NFTs. The goal is to help creators capitalize on emerging technologies and benefit from these expanded opportunities.
She also wrote in the letter about the potential it has seen in NFTs and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOS) over the past year. Wojcicki believes that such technologies have opened a door to unimaginable opportunities to grow connections between creators and their fans.
These new opportunities will continue to strengthen and enhance the experiences creators and fans have on YouTube, she further stated. Wojcicki has not yet revealed how YouTube will include NFTs, aside from the claims that it intends to utilize developments in the Web3 space.
According to the blog post, currently, there are 10 ways for video creators to monetize their content, including ads, shorts, etc. NFTs could be next on the list.
In light of the rise of NFT adoption initiatives by many social media platforms like Twitter and Meta, YouTube looks to compete to attract talent. Last week, Twitter added an NFT feature such that Twitter Blue users can use verified NFTs as their profile pictures. Recently, Adam Mosseri, Instagram CEO, also hinted that the platform is actively exploring the NFT craze.
