Ryan Wyatt, the Global Managing Director of YouTube Gaming, has announced his resignation as part of a move that would take him deeper into the metaverse and the crypto world. Ryan Wyatt has left Youtube Gaming to join as the CEO of Polygon Studios, a company that was founded on the Ethereum sidechain, Polygon.
On Twitter, Wyatt remarked, “I came to YouTube about eight years ago to give gamers a voice and represent the gamer’s needs every day.”
“In my role at Polygon Studios, I will be focused on growing the developer ecosystem through investment, marketing, and developer support and bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3,” Wyatt said. “I’ll be leading the Polygon Studios organization across Gaming, Entertainment, Fashion, News, Sports, and more”.
“I’m excited to work with developers and builders across the Polygon ecosystem and I’ll be sharing more about my journey over the coming months.”
Wyatt received a warm welcome from Polygon Studios in his new role. Polygon intends to invest $100 million in projects headed by its subsidiary studio in order to position Polygon as a capable blockchain for the Web 3.0 transition.
Wyatt was also named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list as one of the world’s Top Young Designers, Executives, and Players. He was again named to the 40 under 40 list a few years later, and he has garnered numerous more awards in the video game industry.
Wyatt has been interested in blockchain technology for a long time. He predicted that NFTs and other decentralized technology would transform the gaming business as early as 2021.
Polygon Studios is the gaming and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) division of the layer-two Ethereum scaling network. The company’s goals include developing decentralized gaming, attracting blockchain aficionados to its NFT token ecosystem, and establishing Polygon as a capable blockchain for the Web3 transition.
Wyatt believes it’s time to start something fresh and thus, will move onto Polygon Studios’s new CEO in March. Youtube is considering the possibility of expanding its offering to include NFTs, seeing the potential in evolving Web3.
