In Brief:
- Reddit is testing a feature that will allow its users to set NFTs as their profile pictures.
- The feature is still in its early stages and no decisions have been made about when it would be implemented.
The social media platform Reddit is currently testing a new feature that allows users to put any NFT they possess as their profile picture. This is only an experiment, according to Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt, and it has yet to be decided if the feature will be added or not.
Reddit’s experiment with NFT as Profile pictures comes hot on the heels of Twitter adding NFT features on its platform. Reddit’s fresh efforts are strikingly similar to that of Twitter in which users were able to add their collected NFTs as a profile picture.
It’s not the first time Reddit has dabbled in the NFT space. Last year, the social media platform dropped three unique CryptoSnoos NFTs built on Ethereum Blockchain. The platform has been experimenting with various aspects of NFTs for quite some time. It also has an NFT-dedicated page nft.reddit.com.
In October last year, Reddit posted a job ad seeking a senior backend engineer to develop a large-scale NFT trading platform. This time, Reddit aims to explore ways to provide value for users and communities. The NFT feature is still in its early stages and the platform is testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verify ownership.
Many social media platforms are coming ahead in joining the NFT frenzy. Just two days ago, Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki revealed the video platform is planning to add NFT features to provide an additional source of revenue to its creators.
