On Feb 12, one of the leading NFT collections Cryptopunk proved its potential to hold the top three position on the NFT leaderboard. Cryptopunk #5822 received the record-breaking sale for a whopping 8,000 Ether or over $23 million.

A buyer has been identified as Deepak Thapliyal, who is the CEO of Chain, a blockchain firm. He acquired Cryptopunk NFT using leverage services on Compound finance.
Cryptopunk is the most volume generated NFT collection after Bored Ape Yacht Club. It contains 10,000 NFTs that feature pixel art computer-generated images created by Larva Labs in 2017. Since its launch, the collection fetched 841.2K Ether in traded volume.
The floor price for NFT from the Cryptopunk collection is around 72.5 Ether.
After this purchase, Deepak came on Twitter to announce the purchase of one of the most expensive CryptoPunk NFT. “Thanks to [Compound Finance], I am able to still HODL ETH while buying this. Basically Long’d ETH to punk-in. [Decentralized finance] FTW,” Thapliyal tweeted.
Amid the excitement in NFT lovers, many NFT critics condemned this purchase and affirmed that the sale was just to create hype and to hike the collection’s floor price.
The sale of Cryptopunk #5822 second-highest in the collection that follows Cryptopunk #9998 for 124,457.06 ETH. However, the Owner of Punk #9998 has just created an illusion to increase the NFT price and transferred NFT from one address to other.
Except Cryptopunk #9998, the last two highest sales were for Cryptopunk #3100 and #7804 for 4200 Ether for each.
American Hip-hop star, Snoop Dogg has praised this collection from his NFT Twitter handle with the pseudonym Cozomo de’ Medici. He tweeted, “My congrats to @dt_chain. This chad has electrified the space in a way we have not seen in quite a while”

Deepak Thapliyal is currently holding up 1,975 NFTs from 58 different collections including BAYC. As Per DappRadar, the estimated value of these NFTs is around $64.63 million.
