The CEO of Disney promoted veteran executive Mike White as a senior VP to lead the studio’s metaverse project, Bob Chapek, CEO of Disney revealed this hiring.

White will take charge of next-generation storytelling and consumer experiences as SVP at the Walt Disney Co. The company is working to connect “physical and digital worlds”.
“Today, we have an opportunity to connect those universes and create an entirely new paradigm for how audiences experience and engage with our stories,” Chapek said in the internal memo.
White was promoted to a new role to make Disney’s foray into the metaverse. Metaverse is the sort of virtual world on blockchain technology using different elements such as augmented reality, virtual reality, etc.
The metaverse project will use web 3.0 technology to integrate 3-D avatars inspired by real-life.
White has been working with Disney since 2011. Three years later after his joining, he became a senior VP and chief technology officer for Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, engaged in creating new products and consumer experiences.
The “so-called metaverse” is “the next great storytelling frontier and the perfect place to pursue our strategic pillars of Storytelling Excellence, Innovation, and Audience Focus,” Chapek wrote in the memo. “Teams across the company are exploring this new canvas, and I have been blown away by what I’ve seen.”
To maintain the quality of Disney’s services and offerings in the metaverse as well as NFT space, the company is continuously leveling up its digital units with new hirings. Also, Disney is looking for a Business Development Manager for its NFT marketplace.
