Monster Energy, a beverage monstrosity, has filed four trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and metaverse applications.
As cryptocurrency adoption grows around the world, it continues to entice more and more mainstream organizations to join it. Monster Energy is the most recent addition to the list.
The first of the four trademark applications contains multiple references to ‘Downloadable virtual goods,’ with items ranging from accessories to vehicles, equipment, and even games and computer programs, beverages, food, music, and apparel. Such downloadable multimedia assets will either be “authenticated by NFTs” or supported with “authentication via blockchain”.
Specific references to ‘Retail store and online retail store services featuring virtual goods, blockchain tokens, digital tokens, non-fungible tokens’ can be found in the next one.
The second-to-last filing is for entertainment services related to online non-downloadable virtual beverages, food, clothing, accessories, or software for entertainment purposes.
And the fourth trademark application is for software that would facilitate the displaying, monetizing, buying, selling, trading, and transferring of digital assets like tokens among users using blockchain technology.
There seems to be an increase this year in the number of companies entering the NFT and metaverse spaces with IP applications. Earlier this month, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) filed an application with the USPTO to register the name “NYSE” for an online marketplace for buyers, sellers, and traders of digital goods and NFT.
