The leading E-commerce platform eBay is looking for a way to add crypto as a mode of payment on its platform, which aims to be a marketplace for Gen-Z and millennials, said CEO Jamie Iannone in an interview.
He stated that the firm has been planning to adopt crypto payment as an option for quite some time; an official announcement could be made on the investor’s day on March 10.
He has given examples of the adoption of different types of payment methods through numerous partnerships with Google Pay, Apple Pay and After Pay to match the requirements of modern times for millennials and Gen-Z.
“We’re just completing our transition to manage payments where we’re now managing $85 billion of volume on our platform directly,” Iannone stated in an interview while showing the readiness of the platform to add a new payment method.
While discussing eBay’s stand over booming crypto and blockchain technology, lannone highlighted the non-fungible tokens trading on its platform. Last year, eBay enabled users to buy, sell and trade NFTs.
He pointed out the major change made in the last year that makes the platform a place apart from buying and selling goods.
In the last few years, the popularity of digital assets such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrencies in an impressive manner, especially among youngsters. To get benefits from this new space, eBay is trying to entice Millennial and Gen Z customers by adding a crypto payment option.
However, the company also planned to accept Bitcoin payment in 2014 but it was never executed.
