It is said that, for photography, sellers go to Sotheby’s! It is a household name for fine and decorative art, jewellery, and NFT collectibles in America and around the globe. Jose N. Silva who was brought up in Caracas, Venezuela, received an incredible opportunity to create a piece for Sotheby’s, which will be part of the ‘Modern & Contemporary Day Auction’ curated by artist ThankYouX.
The piece is called “Kinesthesia”, which is inspired by Latin American art history’s emphasis on ‘Kineticism’. Silva wanted to create a piece that brought his passion for photography and kineticism together.
The C- print physical item is printed on metallic paper and mounted under acrylic glass, suspended and framed by black oak. The bidding opens on 3rd March at 12:00 GMT.
Silva describes it as “perfectly imperfect”. It is his first art piece under his own smart contract, created with the help of Manifold Studio.
The accompanying NFT is a gift by the artist to the buyer. The NFT token is ERC – 721, which was minted in February of this year. The payment of the piece will be also accepted in cryptocurrencies. The auction house has set the estimate between £20,000 to £30,000 ($27,000 to $40,000).
ThankYouX is an LA artist known for his art around Andy Warhol. He partnered with Soho House and Samsung to create an immersive experience for Art Basel and held a successful, solo exhibit in NYC. He selected J.N. Silva for his curated section in the Contemporary Art Day Sale for Sotheby’s.
The following artists are also showcasing their art in the auction: ThankYouX, Kevin Render, Lirona, Drift, Cath Simard, Claire Silver, Reo, Defaced.
Sotheby’s has become the kingpin of CryptoPunks related news due to its earlier announcement of the largest NFT auction with 104 CryproPunks, which Sotheby’s later canceled.
