Rare photographs of astronaut Kalpana Chawla were dropped as NFTs as part of International Women’s Day 2022. Chawla’s personal quotes are also included in the never-seen-before photographs.
Ten unseen pictures of Kalpana Chawla are included in the NFT collection, each with 25 copies. That means a total of 250 NFT pieces are available in the collection.
NFT auction platform GuardianLink launched the collection on the Beyondlife.club marketplace.
Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian-American woman NASA astronaut to go to space. Chawla was one of the seven crew members who tragically died when the Space Shuttle Columbia destroyed during its re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere on February 1, 2003.
The proceeds from this sale will be donated to child welfare organizations in India. The organizations’ name has not been revealed yet.
The photographs were released with Chawla’s husband Jean-Pierre Harrison’s permission. Harrison declared, “In recognition of Kalpana’s achievements, I have approved the release of NFTs consisting of rare and previously unseen photographs of moments from her life.”
“It is indeed a proud moment for us to have been launching Kalpana Chawla’s inspirational quotes and pictures in the form of NFTs on our platform. We are glad that through us and with the help of Jean-Pierre Harrison, we will be able to connect and touch the lives of her million fans,” Ramkumar Subramaniam, Co-founder & CEO of GuardianLink stated.
The NFT boom in India is not to be taken lightly at all. Even a lot of commemorative NFT collections dropping back to back of iconic figures in a way to honor their life and journey. In January of this year, the platform NFTically dropped NFTs on Republic Day which contained memorable moments from legendary athlete Milkha Singh’s life.
