The NFT community built by the startup Yuga Labs – Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) announced on Twitter that it donated $1 million to Ukraine.
It has matched its community members’ $1 million Ether donations to Ukraine by donating its own to the country’s official Ethereum wallet address.
The Ethereum-backed NFT collection shared the information, along with an Etherscan transaction link indicating that it sent 388.999 ETH ($1,053,903.32 at the time of writing) after being inspired by the contributions of the wallets containing a BAYC ecosystem NFT.
Ukraine has received well over $88 million in cryptocurrency donations of which $6.79 million in ETH came from Ukraine DAO. Ukraine’s Decentralized Autonomous Organization is the largest NFT-based crypto contribution to Ukraine’s war efforts that raised over $6 million (2258 ETH) by the auction of the Ukrainian flag NFT.
Another Ukrainian flag-inspired NFT auction included ‘Ringers #376’ NFT from Rudy Adler and “Special Operation” 1/1 edition NFT from XCopy Art auctioned to help Ukraine. In closing, there is no better explanation of the power of NFT and DAOs.
Coming back to BAYC, it is now the world’s second-largest NFT collection, with over 417,200 ETH traded volume in secondary sales in the last 24 hours, according to OpenSea.
