Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated she sees crypto assets as a source of tax revenue while speaking at the India Global Forum in Bengaluru.
“Many Indians have seen a future in crypto, therefore I see a possibility of revenue in it,” the FM stated.
The Finance Minister was replying to a question asked by Coinswitch CEO Ashish Singhal, who declared his support on the decision to tax profits from crypto transactions.
Nirmala Sitharaman went on to say that consultations about cryptocurrency are now taking place and that the government will be talking about it.
Just in February, the Indian FM declared that the government has the right to tax profits derived from crypto transactions. She even said that the decision to ban or not prohibit crypto will be made depending on the results of the consultations.
Days later, Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that the government and RBI are on the same page when it comes to cryptocurrency and that the two have worked in complete harmony in recent years.
On the other hand, RBI governor Shaktikanta Das has underlined his concern over cryptocurrency, claiming that it could jeopardize the macroeconomic and financial stability of the nation.
