One of the largest tech giants in China, Beijing-based Baidu announced the airdrop of 20,000 NFTs, in three rounds, beginning 10 March.
Chinese Airdrop hunters can look for these NFTs on “Xuper chain” or “Super chain”, which is Baidu’s own blockchain network.
The tokens are nostalgic Chinese cartoon characters which can be used as avatars.
The “Talking Tom Cat” series, comprising 8,888 NFTs, will be dropped from 10 March to 12 March.
Baidu will also create 3,160 limited avatars based on the popular Fox cartoon character “Ahri” who will celebrate his 16th birthday on 16 March.
Baidu has previously released two rounds of digital collection avatars for free, which included Olympic-themed NFTs’ drop on 25 February and “Talking Tom Cat” NFTs’ drop on 8 March.
Baidu is also planning to launch a Superchain digital collection trading platform at the end of March.
Baidu has become the third Chinese tech giant to enter the NFT market led by Alibaba and Tencent launching their own NFT marketplaces last year.
The news of this drop comes amidst increasing scrutiny of NFTs and the Metaverse by the Chinese government, issuing a stern warning regarding illegal money laundering and fundraising using these mediums.
