An unconventional idea, with a low success rate but the right intentions, is how Internet Computer blockchain’s founder, Dominic Williams’ idea can be best described.
Posted on 15 March in a blog, the Dfinity founder laid out a plan involving certain different elements, smart contracts and $250 million.
The plan is based on the ideology that the sanctions imposed on the Russian government are nowhere near enough to end the mortiferous war. The state-controlled Russian media manipulates its population to hold on to its support.
If the Russian population are somehow conveyed the truth of the situation, William believes they will rebel and force their government to stop.
Firstly, virtual people parties will be used to “prove personhood” of every person and then “smart contracts would open a new crypto account for each successful attendee, which they can access and control using an Internet Identity”.
Each participant will then watch an informational video, explaining the truth of the situation and “onto which their unique PIN will be overlaid, dynamically, number by number, requiring them to keep watching until the end to obtain their crypto reward.”
Williams suggests that the task of making the video be left to “talented filmmakers” and that a non-watermarked version be allowed for download so that the recipient can show the video to others.
Each participant would receive $50 worth of Bitcoin or Ethereum for every video they watch. Hoping to get the video across to at least 5 million people, William states that a $250 million fund will be necessary, which can be accumulated using a DAO.
Despite the small and big problems outlining this plan, William writes that “The technical challenges I have described will all be solved anyway, it’s just a question of how long things take.”
Discussing the case wherein Russia shuts down nation-wide internet to prevent the spread of such a revelatory video, he says “that outcome would also be a success since it would successfully alert more Russians to the true nature of their government.”
As the war in Ukraine enters its fourth week, infused with death, destruction and a major breakdown of the economies of both countries, Ukraine has received immense support from the Crypto and Blockchain community ranging from the auction of its flag’s NFT to raise funds to donations from major crypto companies.
