Four times Grand Slam winner, Naomi Osaka is the newest addition to the FTX family, according to the press release. Becoming the first major female professional athlete to join FTX, she will work as the company’s global ambassador and will be compensated in crypto.
In addition, the Japanese tennis player will receive an equity stake in FTX Trading Limited. She will “creatively direct and produce content” aimed at the global audience and feature FTX’s logo on her looks during her competition at the Miami Open.
Naomi Osaka’s main aim, however, will be to bring women into the crypto space. A mental health and social justice advocate, Naomi, said, “We have seen the statistics about how few women are part of crypto by comparison, which kind of mirrors the inequality we see in other financial markets.”
The tennis star further said, “Cryptocurrencies started with the goal of being accessible to everyone and breaking down barriers to entry. I’m excited to partner with FTX to get back to that mission and to innovate on new ways to reach more people and further democratize the space.”
The long-term partnership between the two will also result in FTX helping her with continued involvement in the crypto industry, as well as make a charitable donation to Play Academy.
Play Academy is a charitable organization effort by Osaka in partnership with Nike and Laureus Sport for Good, aimed at changing girls’ lives through sports and play.
“Our partnership with Naomi Osaka will further our goal of getting more diverse voices involved in the future of digital currency and Web3. I am excited to work with Naomi as we look to educate those groups and create a positive impact in the world”, said FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.
The Bahamas cryptocurrency exchange platform is also endorsed by Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, supermodel Gisele Bündchen and NBA legend Stephen Curry.
The latest news of the partnership between the number 1 women’s tennis player and FTX comes after the announcement of an Australian FTX arm by the FTX CEO.
