Japanese messaging app, LINE has just announced the launch of its own NFT marketplace, which will take place on April 13.
The marketplace will operate on the company’s own blockchain called LINE Blockchain, and buyers will have to use the LINE BITMAX Wallet to store the NFTs. Therefore, exchange of NFTs will only be possible among people via LINE’s proprietary wallet service.
The marketplace will feature over a 100 types of NFTs, and the company plans to integrate the NFTs as avatars for the LINE messaging service in the future.
Other plans include using NFTs as LINE’s official stamps and stickers, as well as giving away NFTs as prizes on social media campaigns.
For this project, LINE has collaborated with a number of entertainment companies, including video game developer Square Enix, entertainment franchise Yoshimoto Kogyo and popular Manga Patlabor. Yoshimoto Stamp NFT and a limited collection of videos from Yoshimoto will also be available for sale on the marketplace.
LINE is a subsidiary of Z Holdings, which in turn is a subsidiary of Softbank. The announcement from Coinpost also reported the launch of another marketplace by Z Holdings, known as “DOSI”, previously called “NFT Mall”.
“It’s possible Web3 will herald a world where life is completely different, and we don’t want the company to miss out on the huge growth opportunity,” said Kentaro Kawabe, co-chief executive of Z Holdings.
DOSI will be available in 180 countries, excluding Japan. Companies and creators will be able to build brand stores and global communities on it.
The LINE app has been looking to move into the crypto world for some time. A month ago, LINE also announced a trial run wherein users will be able to use the LINE app’s native token LINK(LN) for payments at some online merchants.
