The popular Liverpool FC is the latest football club to take a shot in the NFT realm. The club announced a partnership with auction house Sotheby’s to launch their first-ever NFT collection titled ‘LFC Heroes Club.’
All LFC Heroes Club NFTs will be created, purchased and distributed on Sotheby’s Metaverse, powered by Web3 commerce platform Mojito. This is also the first time Sotheby’s is collaborating with a sports club in its 278-year history!
Fans can join an innovative fan community by buying an LFC NFT, which includes access to an LFC community forum, unique experiences, virtual hangouts, competitions, LFC retail discounts, etc.
The LFC Heroes Club limited edition sale and Legendary 1/1 auction kicks off on March 30th and closes on April 1st.
Each Limited Edition Hero NFTs feature one LFC player or manager, each with its very own set of characteristics. The NFTs will be made using a generative art algorithm that generates NFTs with mixed and matched features, making each piece truly unique.
Traits vary from the common ‘Match Mode’ to the less common ‘Fresh Mode,’ and the most rare ‘Super Mode.’
The purchasers will only find out which NFT they received when it’s delivered to their wallets. The NFTs will be sold for $75 each and handed to bidders in the days after the auction.
The 1/1 Legendary NFTs show the LFC team members with superpowers, depicting the stars at their most powerful. Each NFT is portrayed with their unique strength. All 24 NFTs will be auctioned off as individual lots, with the highest bidder winning.
As part of LFC’s devoted sustainability initiative, The Red Way, the NFTs will be minted using the energy-efficient Polygon network, which represents LFC’s dedication to having a beneficial effect on the environment.
LFC will donate 50% of all proceeds from the Legendary 1/1 edition, 10% of all proceeds from the Hero limited edition NFT, and 10% of the resale royalty on all subsequent sales, to the LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity.
Drew Crisp, Senior Vice President of Digital, Liverpool FC stated, “We wanted to create a really accessible collection of NFTs that are truly unique to LFC, and simply provide fans an opportunity to explore this new and trending topic. Most importantly, we want to give fans the choice to buy one should they wish while continuing to support the great work of the LFC Foundation.”
Football clubs are going all out and riding on the NFT wave. Just two days back French football club Paris Saint-Germain filed a number of trademarks for metaverse and NFT-related keywords with products and services at the USPTO. FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta also revealed plans to integrate crypto, NFTs, and metaverse to overcome the ongoing financial crisis in the club.
