The six-time national award winner, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan & Padma Vibhushan awardee, the one-and-only legendary late Indian singer S P Balasubrahmanyan’s last ever unreleased song recorded a few weeks before his demise is set to be launched as an NFT.
The 30-minute track will be auctioned on April 9th by Diginoor, an Indian entertainment NFT platform which has the exclusive rights to sell and release the song as an NFT.
This is also the first time in India that the winning bidder is going to receive 51% of the track’s copyright, allowing the NFT holder to make the song available to the general public, change it, and reproduce it in any way.
The unreleased Tamil-language song was also SPB’s final ever devotional track. SPB recorded the album ‘Vishwaroopa Darisanam’ in partnership with the music label Symphony Records.
Sri Hari, CEO, Symphony Records, stated “Symphony is glad to partner with Diginoor to launch SPB’s last song as an NFT, giving a chance to his fans and music lovers to have co-ownership of sir’s magnum opus and its copyrights.”
SP Charan, SPB’s son and also a notable film-maker and singer, stated “It gives us great joy to announce the NFT drop of my father’s last unreleased song. We are thankful to Diginoor for creating this NFT and carrying on the legacy of SP Balasubrahmanyam. I hope that his fans will enjoy this limited edition NFT.”
According to Diginoor, pre-bid offers for the NFT drop are already touching $200,000. The platform will also launch a one-minute trailer for the song to give SPB fans a sneak peek of the track on April 2.
Shaamil Karim, founder and CEO of Diginoor, added “As a Tamilian, it brings me great pride to release SP Balasubrahmanyam sir’s magnum opus on Diginoor exclusively for his legacy to live on the blockchain forever.”
There is one more singer in India who is actively exploring the crypto world and pioneering in the sector. It’s none other than pop star Daler Mehndi who became the first Indian singer to perform in the Metaverse. He recently also bought Balle Balle Land, a virtual space in the Metaverse which will host Punjabi music, concerts and movies-related activities
