Good news for iOS users, as Metamask announced a new app update for iOS users on account of which they can purchase Ether (ETH) and other cryptocurrencies directly from the application using ApplePay.
As revealed in the Twitter thread, iOS users can easily buy cryptocurrency on the mobile app via debit or credit card, without having to transfer Ether (ETH) from any centralized exchange like Coinbase into the app. Thanks to Metamask’s deal with the payment gateway Wyre.
In Brief:
- The other updates include supporting gasless transactions.
- Metamask is introducing the dark mode too.
- The recent update allows one to purchase cryptocurrency using over 60 global currencies.
- One has to keep MetaMask Mobile updated to v4.3.1 to avail these updates.
In fact, the firm disclosed that it does not profit from gas fees when completing an ETH purchase. MetaMask Mobile thus, supports gasless transactions just like private blockchains.
The other feature to watch out for would be introducing a dark mode to their iOS mobile application. The firm admits that dark mode has been a much demanded feature by their users for a while.
Director of communications & content at ConsenSys, James Beck, claimed that “wen dark mode?” and “wen token” have been the most awaited requests by their users. Dark mode will automatically be enabled in the app when the user‘s iPhone Operating System has dark mode enabled system-wide.
Transak payment gateway has made it easier to buy the stablecoins USDT, USDC and DAI on MetaMask. However, the recent update allows one to purchase cryptocurrency using over 60 global currencies.
Another important upgrade provided is a security update while sending tokens. Tokens are first sent to a contract address with instructions explaining how to send a specified amount of tokens to a recipient address. With the update, users can now “clearly see which contract is requesting” permission and label and accordingly, save that contract.
A Twitter thread dated March 5, had warned MetaMask users “to be careful when interacting with contracts” and trying to approve a certain address to move those tokens. They claimed that the token approving action could result in assets being stolen and that the only way to be secured is to revoke token allowances.
The only prerequisite to avail these perks is to keep MetaMask Mobile updated to v4.3.1!
The updates do not come off as a surprise as ConsenSys, the owner of the MetaMask wallet, raised $450 million in its Series D round and had allotted the fund for the expansion of MetaMask, with a major redesign scheduled for release in 2022.
