The wait for OpenSea’s Solana NFT Integration is finally over! The leading marketplace OpenSea yesterday confirmed that it will add support for NFTs minted on the Solana blockchain.
OpenSea announced the news with a short teaser clip that read ‘wen Solana???’. Taking a jibe at all the ‘plans regarding the integration’, the clip was playfully captioned as ‘The best kept secret in Web3’. The integration is expected to come in April.
In Brief:
- With the integration, Solana would be the fourth blockchain network whose NFTs can be traded on OpenSea.
- The other supported blockchain are Ethereum, Polygon and Klaytn.
- Currently, Solana ranks second after Ethereum when it comes to ‘all-time NFT sales’.
Recently, in January, the speculations regarding the integration had become ever more certain when leaked screenshots taken by famous writer and hacker, Jane Manchun Wong hinted at a possible inclusion of Solana- based NFTs and Phantom wallet.
The support would make Solana the third layer 1 and overall the fourth blockchain network whose NFTs can be traded on OpenSea. The other supported blockchain are Ethereum, Polygon and Klaytn. Interestingly, Solana ranks second after the market-topper Ethereum when it comes to ‘all-time NFT sales’.
It is also worth mentioning that with OpenSea’s support of Solana, Solana’s native marketplace, Magic Eden may feel the pinch.
Reportedly, Magic Eden controls Solana NFT sales with over 90% market share. Recently, Magic Eden had also raised $27 million in a Series A funding round to develop a suite of products and services. In this view, one can only wait to see the impact of OpenSea and Solana collab on Magic Eden!Â
